Are we entering the Googlization era?

It’s not my idea,as there have been posts and announcements everywhere about every single new thing that is being released by Google. Is everything going to be a monopoly by Google?
Without a doubt, it’s so cool to have all in one, search engine, email account, calender, even office applications, soon an OS, and so many more.
But to what extend is it good to have all those services by one single provider? I have nothing against Google.. yet.
But I don’t want to end up, sooner than I thought, being the character of a cyberpunk 80s movie where everything -even the food- was controlled by one company.
Ok, i’m going too far with this, hehe that’s me, but I think you got the idea.

Does any of you share the same opinion as me?

Don’t forget to customize your 404 error page

Unfortunately no website is free of 404 pages. The reasons are numerous. An image no longer available, an unsuccessful search query, a misspelled hyperlink to name a few.

When a user sees a 404 error page, the most common thing to do is to exit the website and search for a new one. Users feel like they have been thrown outside the specific website. It’s like telling them “we don’t have what you want so get out”. Even if that’s not the case at all.

However, if you modify and customize your error page in such a manner that maintaines the design of the rest website, the user will not feel “thrown away”. Follow the examples of other known websites and include your logo, a nice phrase like “oops, seems like that one skipped us” or a similar catchy one, include also some links that will lead the user to other pages of your site and your chances of keeping him or her, increase immediately!

It’s not hard to do it and you eliminate the possibilities of losing your readers/customers/users. Think of them more than yourself. Making such a page will take less time than the simplest page of the website you are designing.

And for clients, make sure you demand from your web developer to make you a custom error page. It’s worth the trouble!

Why is it so hard to remove that white space? I mean, I know it’s not rocket science but it’s really annoying when you edit something and it makes some white background to appear out of nowhere and then you have to do it from scratch again because you can’t seem to find that piece of code that made the white space appear in the first place.

Hehe, sorry for my nagging. Yes I managed to make a layout without any white space, however, another one really broke my nerves into thousand pieces. I still haven’t figured how to get rid of that white space.

However I will admit that the new version is way better. But you have to know all the different modules to do the modifications. It’s not hard. It just takes some time to get used to it I guess.

Soon you’ll be able to add me to your myspace when I have mine up and running ^^.
